What a week! The KA Team is so thrilled to have announced yesterday that the 5771/2011 Kosher Products & Services Directory is ready and available for you, our valued (and no doubt very busy) kosher consumer.
Grunfeld’s Catering is a kosher le Pesach option we would like to highlight in this edition of Kosher KApers. “Our food is home-style and delicious and we have been loyally serving our community with tasty kosher food all-year round, and of course, at Pesach time, for more than four decades,” said Avi Reuven. Grunfeld’s can help you through the Seder night and beyond. Beginning with items for your Seder plate, such as charoset (available in ¼ litre, ½ litre or 1 litre sizes), followed by entrée, fish, meat and side dishes, all the way through to late night (or anytime!) treats like moist cakes and desserts, Grunfeld’s has it covered.
Many of their most popular dishes are traditional favourites: “our boiled gefilte fish is a winner, as is our chopped liver. Customers also enjoy our kosher le Pesach chicken schnitzels, and our pareve orange cake with icing, bon vivant and decadent chocolate mousse are superb,” noted Avi. Grunfeld’s is appetising and affordable. To see the full Pesach order form, click on www.grunfelds.com.au/pesachorder2011.pdf. Grunfeld’s kosher le Pesach cuisine must be picked up from 86 Bellevue Road, Bellevue Hill, and orders need to be placed by midday on Tuesday April 12th. Two pick up times have been scheduled: Sunday April 17th between 5pm and 7pm, or on erev Pesach, Monday April 18, between 1pm and 3pm. Enjoy!
With Pesach so close and the youngest in each family diligently practising for their Ma Nishtanah solo, many preparing Yom Tov meals will need to purchase kosher le Pesach meat over the next few days. The KA Team want to make it easier for you and fill you in on where you can go around town for the best in quality kosher le Pesach fleishig fare.
Let’s begin at Eilat at Hadassa Gourmet Butchery, located at 17 O’Brien Street in Bondi. Master Butcher, Steve Morley, shares a few of his tantalising creations. His signature lamb and pumpkin roast is a mouth-watering main course option, or perhaps try an American beef roast – delicately stuffed with prunes and topped with a blueberry glaze.
Wow your guests with the above or perhaps sample the fillet mignon. Steve expertly takes a fillet steak, wraps it in smoked brisket and finishes it off with a herb/garlic margarine. “Here at Eilat at Hadassa, we are so excited to take this quality, fresh produce and showcase it in new and creative ways, exploring innovative taste sensations, all-the-while, maintaining the personalised, one-on-one service we have always offered. Call us on 9365 4904 to place your orders. We will assist with tailoring your menu and will have your order ready-to-go within 24 hours.”
Dear Sydney kosher consumers, a gourmet butchery might seem a long way from Egypt, but in truth, this experienced team is revolutionising the kosher le Pesach fleishig possibilities before our eyes. It’s fun, it’s fresh and it’s so impressive! Please note, Eilat at Hadassa is open on erev Pesach, Monday April 18th until 2pm. And during Pesach, on Chol Hamoed, Thursday April 21st from 6am to 6pm and also Sunday, April 24th from 7am to 1pm.
If you are in the Maroubra area, look no further than Chic’n Meat, a friendly family-owned business located at 789 Anzac Parade. Chic’n Meat’s up-to-date website features a helpful calendar with relevant Pesach information (www. chic-n-meat.com.au). Owner Boris Fooks outlines: “we offer our customers kosher le Pesach barbeque chickens, in addition to a large array of fresh chicken options. Here in the south-eastern Sydney area, customers also have the added convenience of placing and collecting their meat orders here.”
Boris continues “Over Pesach, we might not have our usual fresh challot on offer, but we have a helpful selection of kosher le Pesach products, from matzah to grape juice to chips and jams – all at highly competitive prices.” Orders to Chic’n Meat must be placed by 5pm on Tuesday April 12th and may be picked up on Sunday April 17th between 9am to 12.30pm and also on erev Pesach, Monday April 18th between 8.30am and 2pm.
As of this week, Sydney-based M&M Poultry kosher le Pesach products are available at Coles (Westfield Bondi Junction; Bondi Eastgate; Edgecliff; Lindfield; Maroubra; Pagewood; Nth Parramatta, and Rose Bay), Woolworths (Bondi Junction; Double Bay, and St. Ives),and Franklins (Pagewood; Rose Bay, and St. Ives). If kosher consumers would like to place specific orders for chicken, duck, turkey, and spatchcock, please approach your supermarket’s meat manager, and orders can be collected within a handful of days.
Director Geoff McGeachie says “two of the KA’s mashgichim (supervisors), David Chriqui and Zak Barukh, work here at our processing plant; they are friendly guys along with the KA’s two shochtim, Rabbi Niasoff and Rabbi Perlow. Additionally, if we have any questions or queries we appreciate that Rabbi Groner and Rabbi Gutnick are always available. We work under the strict supervision of the Kashrut Authority.” Please note that M&M Poultry packaging for Pesach is differentiated to other times of the year, by having a kosher le Pesach seal on the front and of course, a KA sticker.
Okay, four cups of wine per person, per Seder … that’s a whole lot of wine needed for this upcoming chag! We wanted to let you know that L’Chaim wine (non-mevushal), is available for sale in two sizes: 500mL and 750mL. Producer Barbara Pashut is passionate about her product. She comments: “There is no doubt that producing wine is a long and multi-faceted process. I was fortunate to work closely with Reverend Cha’oul Samra and can honestly say I learnt so much from him. This recipe was handed down from my great-uncle and has a deep significance to my family. We are so proud of the result.” To order L’Chaim wine, contact Barbara on 0413 740 697, or via email
Just a reminder that the KA’s Pesach Product Directory is also available free at Eilat at Hadassa; Gold’s World of Judaica; Grandma Moses; Krinsky’s; Lewis’, Stark’s, and also at your local shule. Also, please diarise the upcoming shiur at Dover Heights Shule, given by our very own Rabbi Moshe Gutnick next Wednesday evening, April 13th between 8pm and 9pm. With the topic entitled: “Pesach Kitchen KApers”, it will be an incredibly insightful hour with Rabbi Gutnick expounding everything you always wanted to know about Pesach. Get those questions ready!
Next week, we are staying right here on Channel Pesach, and look forward to featuring the incredible selection of kosher le Pesach options at Krinsky’s and Stark’s, as well as Solomon’s products. We also can’t wait to talk ‘matzah’, the old school varieties and all the modern variations (still strictly kosher le Pesach of course)!
