Pesach 5772 (with all its meaningful significance) is just a few days away and we understand that the items on your To-Do list just keep multiplying at an exponential rate. Kosher KApers is here to help –

by offering insight into many kosher le Pesach options around town, we hope to take the edge off, and we hope to lighten the load.

De Costi Seafoods
For the first time, De Costi Seafoods, located within Westfield Bondi Junction shopping centre (Shop 1023, outside Coles), is offering kosher le Pesach fish. Store manager Nick Theodorou advises, “Here at De Costi, we are happy to accommodate fish requests for your upcoming holiday of Passover. We offer quality minced fish; salmon; snapper; barramundi; wahoo and so much more and can prepare kosher fish to your preference. As availability is often weather dependent, we look forward to liaising with you and adding De Costi fish to your festive feast!” Please note all Pesach orders must be placed by Friday afternoon March 30th. Pick up will be available from Tuesday April 3rd to Thursday April 5th, call Nick at De Costi on
02 9369 3844.

DJ&A Drinks
Director of DJ&A, Jeremy Isaac, is delighted to inform the community of a new range of kosher le Pesach drinks this year. “In a world first, we have produced an aloe vera beverage featuring real aloe vera cubes. This is a novel and unique way to process this succulent plant and the method requires highly specialised machinery. The result is a delicious tasting drink containing small chewable cubes.” Produced under the brand, Sappé, these 300mL drinks are available in grape or peach flavour. Aloe vera is known to be a soothing aide with digestion and knowing that Pesach can be a little testing on that front, what better time to try this healthy, yet enjoyable Pesach thirst-quencher!

DJ&A also offer the only Australian made kosher le Pesach bottled water. ‘Organic Australia’ is pure Australian mountain spring water and comes from a certified organic source (see image below). It is available in 1.5L or 600mL sizes and consumers can purchase these drinks from Krinsky’s (175 Bondi Road, Bondi); Grandma Moses (513 Old South Head Road, Rose Bay), or directly from the DJ&A shop (1/10 Jacques Avenue, Bondi Beach).

Pesach Shopping
Prices are lower than ever before at Krinsky’s, as now in addition to running the successful iconic kosher shop, the Krinsky’s clan are importing directly from overseas. This year, many new and interesting kosher le Pesach products feature. These include: a wide range (over 20 varieties) of new cheeses by Natural & Kosher and Les Petite Fermieres – both Chalav Yisrael and non-Chalav Yisrael; Lieber’s Yum Yum gluten-free crackers in Everything, Garlic, and Original flavours; Lieber’s Croutons in Barbeque, Onion Garlic, and Original flavours; Natural Earth Balsamic Vinegar of Modena; Mazol Roasted Almonds, Hazelnuts, and Salted Pistachios. If you have a sweet tooth, indulge in Gefen’s marshmallow range including Mini and Pink & White; Lieber’s Cotton Candy, or Gefen ice pops in Lucky Lemon and Lucky Cherry (long thin ice blocks). Please see images below in addition to a table of Krinsky’s opening hours for your convenience. Grandma Moses also offers an impressive variety of kosher le Pesach products including the natural gluten-free range of spices by Pereg including: Mixed Spices for Meat Balls; Shawarma; Fish, and Hot Red Paprika with Oil (see image below). Naturally, this is in addition to a plethora of other Pesach products.

Of course Coles, Franklins and Woolworths also feature dozens of Pesach items. This year for the first time, Coles Westfield Bondi Junction; Eastgate, and Rose Bay will be stocking fresh horseradish in the chiller section of their respective Fresh Produce departments from Monday April 2nd. However, if you are time poor there is another fantastic option for you: My Kosher Store (www.mykosherstore.com.au/pesach), the on-line convenient kosher shopping site, this year has a dedicated Pesach store and has close to 200 kosher le Pesach products on offer as well.

Jewish House & Coles Pesach Food Drive
Each year, there are those within the community who struggle and are in-need. This is often highlighted when the desire to purchase kosher le Pesach food, and the harsh reality of not having the means to do this, are in stark contrast with one another. The KA wholeheartedly supports Jewish House and Coles in their Pesach Food Drive initiative. Jewish House CEO Rabbi Mendel Kastel says, “While we are grateful and it is uplifting to see the generosity offered thus far, we encourage all those still shopping for Pesach, or indeed those who frequent a Coles supermarket, to buy extra Pesach non-perishable food items and simply drop into the designated box at the entrance of the store.” And it couldn’t be easier this year, with nine Coles supermarkets around town joining this important cause. These include: Coles Westfield and Eastgate, Bondi Junction; Chatswood Chase; Edgecliff; Lindfield; Maroubra Junction; Pagewood; Randwick and Rose Bay. Or alternately, you can visit My Kosher Store on-line at http://www.mykosherstore.com.au/products-page/pesach/page/12/ and can make a virtual donation without physically walking into a supermarket.

Harkham Wine
Thanks for letting us know just how much you enjoyed the refined Harkham Wine event held earlier this month, we love the positive feedback! Harkham Windarra Winery has some wonderful news and Richard Harkham is thrilled to share, “We are proud to advise that our Aziza’s Chardonnay 2011, which is kosher le Pesach, has just been featured in the prestigious wine publication, ‘The World of Fine Wine’ and has been rated the second best white wine in Australia by world renowned wine writer, Jancis Robinson.” Kosher consumers have the opportunity to taste the award-winning Aziza’s Chardonnay 2011 this Sunday, April 1, at Vaucluse Cellars (58 New South Head Road, Vaucluse) between 3pm and 5pm. Here, you can purchase this and many other kosher le Pesach wines at discounted prices or if you prefer, contact Harkham Wines directly via email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Pesach Medicine List 5772
The KA understands that it can be confusing to gauge the status of medicines over Pesach. We are pleased to advise that the Pesach Medicine List is now available on our website at http://www.ka.org.au/index.php/Pesach_Guide/Pesach_Medicine_List2.html. Rabbi Groner adds, “I would like to remind the community that the Rabbanim at The Kashrut Authority are here to assist with any medical questions you may have that pertain to Pesach. We recommend that as a first step, you take a moment to read our medical guidelines at the link above. If your question is urgent, please indicate this by stating ‘Urgent Medical Question’ as the subject of your e-mail or feel free to SMS (again beginning the message with: ‘Urgent Medical Question’) to Rabbi Gutnick on 0411 757 372 or myself on 0414 806 723.”

Of course, our office will be open 9.00am to 1.00pm chol ha-moed Pesach and we welcome questions via our Facebook Group which now has over 860 valued members. If there are any last minute halachic Shaalot, please SMS our Rabbanim at the numbers above.

From all of us here at the KA Team, including our rabbinic administrator, Rabbi Moshe Gutnick, our president, Baron Revelman, our assistant rabbinic administrator, Rabbi Aaron Groner, the entire KA Board and staff, we sincerely wish you a Chag Pesach Kasher v’Sameach.
